Executive Director’s Introduction
Thank you for interest in the Calcium Bone Health Institute. Our aim is to improve the treatment of and research into calcium related diseases.
The CBHI carries out world-class research to understand calcium related diseases. This is an exciting time for science. We have a focused strategy so that we can continue to achieve research excellence that leads to advancements in calcium related diseases care and the fulfillment of our missions.
The CBHI is uniquely positioned to make make major impacts in alternative medications by building on our existing strengths, taking advantages of our new and innovative SAC formulation biotechnology and working with affiliations and distributors locally, nationally and globally to bridge discoveries and develop better treatments.
We are at the cutting edge of calcium related diseases. Much of our research is focused on osteoporosis, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and anti-aging. Shifting away from the downstream focus on cellular, genetic, and enzymatic pathways typically targeted in drug development for degenerative diseases like cancer and dementia, the CBHI adopts an upstream perspective: the Bone–Serum Calcium Homeostasis–ECM–Cell axis. Under this framework, all age-related degenerative diseases are understood as arising from a systemic process initiated by chronic osteoclast hyperactivation. This leads to serum calcium dyshomeostasis, which in turn drives ECM glycation, cellular inflammation, and DNA mutation. This represents a robust, rational scientific paradigm for understanding aging. Furthermore, we place great emphasis on our training programs for both postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. The CBHI provides the perfect environment for developing and nurturing a scientific career.
I hope you find the CBHI website both interesting and informative.
